$8 Million Verdict Awarded In Benzene Kidney Cancer Case
SAN FRANCISCO - A state court jury in California on May 14 awarded $8 million to a former seaman on an oil shipping vessel, holding that his former employers failed to provide safe working conditions, leading to his development of kidney cancer as a result of benzene exposure, a source told Mealey Publications (Mack Shelby v. Exxon Mobil Corp., et al., No. CGC-06-449350, Calif. Super., San Francisco Co.).
